Resumo

The paper addresses research on music education in the United States and attemptsto probe the nature and characteristics of the present and future research in the musiceducation profession. The article describes the recent status of music as part of thearts education and its effect on research topics and methods. An extensive literaturereview, including original research, meta-analysis and reviews from various authorsand themes are analyzed to verify characteristics and trends. Reflections are madeon the characteristics found, including missing topics for the area, and the effect ofresearch on the teaching and learning in music. No discernible trend or priority oftopics was singled out.
